A customer came into our showroom looking for hardwood floors. While showing him different samples, he explained why he needed new floors. He bought wood floors for his family room from a big-box store, but he didn’t know they were UV Oil-finished. Sadly, he never read the maintenance instructions.

As a result, his floors were ruined. He used the wrong floor cleaner. He also didn’t recall the salesperson telling him what type of finish the floors had or how to care for the floors.

UV-oil-finished hardwood floors require a different cleaning solution than polyurethane-finished hardwood floors.

If you don’t use the right cleaning methods, the finish may lose its ability to protect against spills and scratches. You could be stripping away the finish every time you clean the floors without even realizing it.

Your warranty may not cover damage to the finish if you fail to properly follow the care and maintenance guide.

1. Before you purchase the floors, ask the salesperson about the floor finish. Different floor finishes will have different maintenance needs, levels of protection, and gloss.
2. When buying new floors, please make sure to read and understand how to properly care for the floors. Visit the manufacturer’s website for care and maintenance.
